Red scorpions v Glasgow girls
Attendance 3000

Scottish women’s football club Glasgow girls fc played the first of their 4 games of the Gambian football tour against Red Scorpions.

A crowd of around 3000 turned out to watch the game which is being used to promote women’s football and inspire people to get involved. The crowd included a VIP section with members of the Gambian football federation executive committee, a visiting Fifa delegation, which included Hope Powell, and esteemed members of the Gambian football world.

With temperatures in the high 30’s at kick off it was agreed to have water breaks. From kick off the home crowd displayed huge excitement and delight at every ball won by the home side. After a closely fought first half the game remained at 0-0, despite the visitors finding the net only for it to be ruled offside.

In the second half as players tired from a physical contest the game opened up and chances were created at both ends. Bit it was Gambian forward Adama Tamba who made break through half way through the half as she finished in clinical style having put through 1v1 with the Glasgow Girls goal keeper. 10 minutes later Adama Tamba struck for a second time, with another cool finish to make it 2-0. The visitors, now tiring, changed formation as they chased to get back into the game but the home side held on for a famous victory.
