Airdrieonians trust become first team to visit mandolgovi and play against a local club.
The trust were treated to a special day as they played on the newly built 3g pitch in the Gobi desert. A crowd of local support gathered around the pitch to watch the historic occasion. They were treated to pre match entertainment laid on by the local governors office following discussions with the Honorary Consul to Mongolia in Scotland, David Scott. Before kick off both teams exchanged gifts and sang the national anthems.
The game was played in good spirits with both sides looking for a victory. With the game tied 2-2 at half time it took a late winner, with just minutes left, to find a winner. Mandalgovi claimed a 3-2 win on home turf leading to scenes of celebration from the home support.
Despite the loss for the Airdrieonians trust, it was a great occasion for the visitors, who gifted football strips and 4 gers (Mongolian traditional homes) to homeless families from the town.
Khoromhon 11 – airdrieonians trust 3
(Played at the Mongolian national stadium)
History made as a Scottish amateur team took on a representative side of current Mongolian national champions, khoromhom. The game, played at the national arena, officiated by a team of fifa qualified match officials and led by a fifa match agent from Scotland, has been established to promote links between Mongolian and Scottish football.
Held on the British fair day in the capital ulan batar, the British ambassador, Catherine Arnold, presented the trust team with a plaque to celebrate the occasion.
Following the success of the recent trip to Mongolia with the Airdrieonians Trust team we’re delighted to announce a 3 year partnership deal with Sand-baggers Ltd. The deal will ensure our Clients receive first class services from industry leading experts.
His Excellency Mr Tulga Narkhuu, Ambassador to Mongolia in the UK, attended an Airdrieoninas home game at the weekend as the club took on Cowdenbeath in the league. The trip was organised by the Honorary Consul for Mongolia in Scotland, David Scott. The visit ties into the clubs supporters trust expedition to Mongolia later this month where the group will play football games against local sides, trek across the remote countryside and deliver gers (traditional family homes) to homeless communities. It’s hoped that further international links can be developed as a result of the Ambassadors visit and subsequent trust expedition.
Huge thanks goes to the Excelsior Stadium (Airdrie) for their support to the Airdrieonians trust trip to Mongolia next month by donation of funds to secure a ger for a family in Dundgov aimag #mongolia. This, together with funds raised by the Trust, means we’ll leave behind 2 gers for the community.
